Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy who is believed to be responsible for a case of armed robbery at Yishun Avenue 6 early this morning.
On 16 June 2011 at about 1:00am, the victim, a Filipino woman in her 30s, informed Police that she was robbed of her cash at knife point at the void deck of Blk 399 Yishun Avenue 6. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division responded to the scene immediately and managed to obtain a detailed description of the suspect from the victim. The officers conducted a systematic search of the area, and their efforts paid off when they spotted the suspect at about 5:00am at Blk 418 Yishun Ave 6. The suspect was placed under arrest after a brief interview. A knife, believed to have been used in the commission of the offence, and the stolen cash of about $20, were also recovered.
The suspect will be charged in the Juvenile Court on 17 June 2011 for an offence of Armed Robbery under Section 392 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum punishment of 14 years imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Police Hsu Sin Yun, commended his officers for their alertness and perseverance which led to the arrest of the suspect. AC Hsu reiterated that youth offenders involved in violent crimes must be warned that they will not be treated lightly simply because of their age. The Police will spare no effort to track down the perpetrators of such violent crimes and bring them to justice.
Police advised members of public to be aware of their surroundings in isolated areas, to remain calm if confronted, to take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator(s) and to call the Police as soon as possible.
